My friend stretched his ears from a 12g to a 8g and he used acrylic tapers. My question is that is there anything that he can use instead of acrylic tapers? Also how big of a gauge can you go until your ears will no longer return to normal ? Thanks a bunch your help is much appreciated also and tips and or advice you can give would help

Tapers are bad to wear as jewelry because they are made so that it is easier to fit the bigger plugs in your ear. Acrylic shouldn't be worn in a fresh stretch because the tissue can stick to it and cause damage.
