Jobs

Hey guys. So I've always wanted to have 1/2" - 5/8" ears. I'm just really worried about the consequences when it comes to looking for a professional job. I am a computer science major, but I'm not sure where I want to go with it once I get my degree. Basically what im asking is, do you guys find that most employers get a negative impression of you because of your ears? Does it effect your chances of getting a job?
Thanks

Re: Jobs

Most people I know have just hidden their stretched ears. A friend of mine has 1/2 and bought hider plugs. She got a smaller size (00g, i think) and wears them and also puts her hair down. And also it depends on where you work too. Make sure to check out their policies on body mods before you walk in.

Re: Jobs

If you're not totally sure about what your future career will allow (or sure that you'll even have that career), I wouldn't stretch that big just yet. If you have long hair that can cover your ears, it's not as big of a deal, but 5/8" is still pretty noticeable.
I'm Lindsay.
I have 1/2" lobes and 11 piercings: left helix x2, both conches, both nostrils, septum, navel, and VCH.
My lobes are small but I know a lot about stretching and how to do it safely, so message me if you have any questions!

Re: Jobs

Anyway, at the worse you just have to remove them to work. They can't blame you for hanging earlobes as they can't blame you for facial scars, physical deformation or anything like this.

This is a nice thought, but not true. Most places look at hanging earlobes as "something self done, and not presentable" unlike a gimp arm which you cannot help. I have been told something along these lines :\

Yep, it's the same as a tattoo. It's there forever and you can't do anything about it, but you did make the choice to give yourself a permanant body modification.

Re: Jobs

....another good reason why you should take your time stretching your earlobes.
It's not a revolution, it's a lifestyle.

Re: Jobs

There are laws that prevent employers from discriminating against you, but that doesn't mean they have to hire you.

Re: Jobs

It's not discrimination unless they're not hiring you because of something you didn't choose like your race, sex, or a disability. You make the decision to stretch your ears or get tattooed and pierced. Not that it's right, that's just how it is.
