infected or not

Hey all i recently went up from 4mm to 5mm like a week ago, i took tunnel out this morning as was a bit smelly like cheesy smell when i took tunnel out there was like a yellowish gunk in hole, does this mean my ear is infected or is this just normal ?
I have had bits in ear before but this was a fair bit.
