"My friends healed them in just a couple of months (healed meaning no redness, swelling, soreness, etc)"

Did his piercer ever say anything along the lines of "a piercing may look healed on the outside, but the tissue inside is still very delicate. That's because piercings heal from the outside in"? I hope he wasn't changing the jewelry that soon. Think about how thick your cheek is.

There is no approximate time for swelling to be gone with piercing, only averages... Other piercers and I argue this topic a lot. With cheek piercings it can be tricky to average. Example, I had complications with mine because I swelled so badly. This is not the case for the majority, mine was a worst case scenario. I was swollen for almost 3 weeks due to the fact that I had to get the piercings cut out of the inside of my cheek after they became embedded overnight a week after piercing them. In 2002, cheek piercings we not very common (especially in Minneapolis). Swelling can be unpredictable, and shocking. Some people can swell so badly they have to return to the shop and have something longer put in.

Anyway, swelling... on average you can expect 2 days up to 2 weeks. The best way to reduce swelling is take ibuprofen, let small ice cubes dissolve in your mouth, sleep with your head elevated. Redness can occur for many reasons. In my experience I had redness for a couple of weeks, most had to do with pissed off blood vessels.

Hey don't write me a chapter about the healing thing... Haha... I writted ''healed meaning...'' just because of that. I KNOW that it take a lot of times before the fistula is perfectly healed, I don't mind I'm not talking about that, I'm talking of ''healed'' when it show no more sign of healing.

And thanks for the info. I'm worried about the redness things because my surface is red around the edge (its been 4 months) but it show no sign of rejection: it is just red. The skin don't get thinner over the bar, and the holes don't go closer, it is not sore or painful, its just red around the edge. That's annoying haha. I put bio-oil on it to help it heal, its less red now but its annoying. And I was wondering if a cheek can be red so much times after, its on the face so I prefer if it won't stay red so long.

Wow... I wasn't telling you not to get them, I was just saying be very careful about the placement and the piercer you go to. And if you're worried about migration/rejection get them done at 12G-10G... it'll also help minimize scarring.

And redness around a piercing, especially a surface, can be a very early sign of rejection. But you're going to disregard everything I say anyway so why bother...

Get them done at 12-10g it will minimize scarring? What the hell? If I retire them it will leave a huge red dot! If I do them at 16-14 (probably 14) the spot will be a lot smaller.

Now you can't stop saying this after all your message haha. Sure I'll disregard what you say on stretching but it don't apply on other things.

Yeah Mag, no bad, but you come off as a total A-hole on the message bored. I'm tempted to tell you to get a job and move out of your parents house since you already know everything.

I am assuming you are talking about the piercing on your wrist. It sounds like yours is in the beginning stages of rejection. I would suggest anchors. I had my old apprentice do mine years ago and I ended up taking them out 6 months later. I wrote it off as one of those 'bad idea' piercings.

What do you have in your wrist? Is it Bioflex (PTFE) or Surgical steel?

It's bioplast. And I don't want microdermal here. I had a surface to test if my body take them well. My friend had a surface with a surface bar on her chest, and after one month we could see the bar through. So I think mine is not that bad. People knocked it 2-3 times, its been 4 months and it show no evident signs of rejection.

Yes the redness could be a sign of rejection, but I'm sure its just up-pressure from the barbell since its not a surface bar. It is not lost, I won't remove it soon, I'll wait if it show an EVIDENT sign of rejection. Since by now its not sure.

And I won't get out of my parent house since I'm 17 years old and I'm going to cégep then university instead of getting a slob job and moving in an appartment now.:)

So, you ask me for my opinion and disregard everything I have to say, haha! It's okay, not the first time. I have only been piercing since you were 9 years old, what do I know. I could point out how idiotic it is to think that a piercing in a high movement area verses a low movement area could be one in the same, but I won't waste my time.
Good luck being better than everyone else, I'm sure you will find it rewarding in your future.

Will you please stop acting like I don't know what I'm talking about? Why would I say that at all if I didn't?
Yes, getting pierced at 12G or 10G will minimize scarring caused by MIGRATION, not the actual piercing. Ever hear about something called the cheesewire effect? It's what people get when they wear jewelry that's too thin... A larger gauge piercing is less likely to migrate than a smaller one, especially in something like a cheek where the tissue is THICK. I hope you're not seriously considering getting a 16G cheek piercing.

just to jump in on the cheek piercing thing. I've had mine... 9 months? they still flare up with hypertrophic scarring (which does't look very pretty but really doesn't bother me that much), as soon as one stops the other starts :/ though it is slowly getting better. i still love em though.

i'm gonna stretch them to 12g when they settle down for long enough, and that should help a little.

i've known people with much worse problems, and others who've healed easily... most people seem to give up on them as soon as they have a problem.

Hey Hardware I don't know what are you talking about, I never tried to disregard what you said ?! Wth why are you angry ? I explained my point of view but I know that yours is trustful and I taking your infos in note ? So why being so angry ? I don't understand.

Corazon de oro : I never heard of migrating cheek piercing since this tissue is really thick, that's why I didnt think of this option. Anyway I won't do a 10g cheek it will leave a huge scar that's sure. I'm probably going for a standard 14g and we'll see.
