Btw, the closest gauge to 1.8mm would be 13g, which isn't a standard size for body jewelry. It's possible you could contact someone who makes either glass or teflon jewelry, and custom order 13g jewelry. But it probably would be easier and far cheaper to try teflon taping. It's harder at small sizes, but you can make little jumps that are more gentle for your ears. You can stay at in-between sizes by just using teflon tape over smaller jewelry, but you will need to change it all out regularly so it doesn't get gross. Once you're ready, you keep taping to the next even mm or gauge.
Good stretching shouldn't be painful, so it's good to be a baby about pain in this case. Don't be afraid to be extra cautious, and if you want to break up each size into smaller size increases, that's only going to make your ears happier.
