I had a pair of gorgeous glass 1g plugs in for over two months until I lost one in the ocean

Thankfully I had a 0g stretching kit that I had ordered at the same time as my 1g glass plugs so I felt like I should be ready to stretch to the 0g without any issue. I used an all steel taper and plug kit and they went in fine. I let them heal for awhile and now I wear a pair of single flare acrylic plugs because I like the way they look more than the plain steel. My question is, is it alright to wear acrylic plugs as long as your lobes are fully healed? I've had these in for about a month now and I take them out a few times a week to let my lobes relax and clean them and massage them with vitamin E oil and I haven't had any issues. But I always read advice from people saying "cheap jewelry is awful, plastic chemicals will go into your blood stream etc. etc." But does this really happen if your ears are healed %100?
My other question. Should I start taping now up from 0g? Or keep using the taper to plug method. Can I tape my steel 0g plugs? They aren't flared.
