Re: Tapering
A taper is one of the long, pointy things like these: http://www.bodyartforms.com/productdeta ... 7&index=18 that start out small and stretch your piercing to the next size up when inserted. They are good tools if your ears are loosened up and ready to stretch; they should never be forced and you should never use them to skip sizes. Also, tapers are tools and shouldn't be worn as jewelry as they can put pressure on various parts of your newly-stretched lobe and cause a blowout or tear, especially when you sleep. If you use tapers you'll only need one for every size, plus a pair of single-flare plugs to put in afterward.
I'm Lindsay.
I have 1/2" lobes and 11 piercings: left helix x2, both conches, both nostrils, septum, navel, and VCH.
My lobes are small but I know a lot about stretching and how to do it safely, so message me if you have any questions!

Re: Tapering
Yeah, it is the best way to stretch your ears with minimal stress. This process should never be painful! The main advantage is that your ears should never bleed while tapering!

Re: Tapering
Tapering process should not take more than a few minutes at longest. Tape wrap is also another stretching method. It is also good to try it.
Re: Tapering
@corazon - Are tapers meant to stay in during the entire healing phase or just used to make it easier and more safe to put the jewelry?
Re: Tapering
i'll just answer this, tapers are only meant for stretching your ears to the next size! keeping them in is bad for your ears as they might turn out uneven because of the weight of the tapers butt, also acrylic tapers should deffinetly only be used to get to the next size as they can contain quite some bacteria and slow down the stretching process, so if you want to stretch your ears with a taper, get a pair of plugs to put in afterwards (single flared)melba wrote:@corazon - Are tapers meant to stay in during the entire healing phase or just used to make it easier and more safe to put the jewelry?
