Lesson learned

So after being at 10g for about 7-8 weeks, I decided it was time to go up to 8g. I had bought some plugs off of ebay that I had thought were 8g and 6g. So I matched them up to the tapers that I have and proceeded to put in what I thought were 8g. It was a bit of a struggle but I got them in eventually. About three days later I was talking to a friend who had stretched ears also. He pointed out that what I had looked bigger than he remembered 8g being. When I got home that night, I broke out my husband's digital calipers and measured the plugs (both the ones that I was wearing and the other pair that I had bought). Turns out that I was wearing the 6g ones and the others are 4g. Since I had already been wearing them for a couple of days, I decided that I would keep them in. My right ear is slightly pissed off but it's not crusty or oozy or anything like that. I've been soaking them and massaging them and oiling them and in general trying to be really nice to them.

So, since I inadvertantly skipped a size (which I didn't want to do because I am trying to do this right), I am going to be staying at 6g for atleast two months, probably longer. The lesson learned was to always double check you stuff!!! Especially if you aren't really familiar with what each size looks like.

On another note, when I was cleaning them this morning, I noticed that I can see though the holes!! Not really much to brag about but simple things keep me happy! LOL

Honestly I'd downsize at least to 8G (but 10G would be a better idea) if I were you. That way your ears will have a chance to relax because by skipping a size you put a LOT of pressure on them and you're still at risk for a blowout if you leave the 6G in.

Why downsizing 3 sizes if they are ok. This is stupid. If they were bleeding or full of crusties, downsize 1 size but not 3 for anything... Good for you if you're at 4g and it's ok. Its not like they will rip.

I support the idea of going back to 8g, since you admit at least one piercing is pissed about it. But at the very least add the wait time for the size you skipped before going to 4g. If that angry ear doesn't improve quickly, seriously think about downsizing. It's what I would do. If it does get better in the next day or two, start oil massages asap to prevent any scar tissue that will make the next size harder.

If you skip a size and don't immediately get a blowout, you're not in the clear. Even if you don't skip a size a blowout can develop in the next 1-3 days. Since her ears are under a lot of pressure she could even get one by removing and re-inserting the jewelry. The reason I suggested downsizing back to 10G was because that's the size she was at before.

By the time I had posted about it, I had already been wearing them for a little over a week. My right ear was a bit pissed for the first day or so but nothing more than being a little sore. It wasn't red, crusty, oozy, or anything like that.

Basically I wasn't looking for a lecture. I was just making the point that you should double check your stuff before trusting that it is the size it's supposed to be.

Maybe lecture was the wrong word to use. What got me a little ticked off was the fact that you didn't read my whole post. You saw someone say that they skipped a size and instantly started repeating the exact same info you post everytime someone even mentions skipping a size. I understand that you know alot about lobe stretching, but please read and comprehend the whole post. I was basically just putting the message out there that you should check your stuff before believing that it is the size you were told it was, especially if it is in an unmarked container.
