Self-piercing is not a good idea. Even pros go to other pros to have it done. There are so many pitfalls that you can encounter from the simple (uneven placement) to the more dangerous (non-sterile items giving you nasty infections, necrosis, etc.)

I am assuming, beyond all this, you don't have fresh piercing needles, appropriate jewelry and an autoclave at your disposal...

Lol, yes, I know :3 I'm not innocent of that crime though...in 7th grade I had my helix pierced by a friend shoving a piercing stud I had from when I got my ears pierced at claire's (the gun of terror...) into my cartilage. Qualifications? Her mom's ex-boyfriend was a tattoo artist -.- No adverse effects came of it though...doesn't mean I'd recommend it to others though lol

my mums been trying to get rid of my plugs for a looong time. she told me i was finished at 6g.. funny stuff. im at 12mm and i told her i was stopping some day ill pull my hair back and she will see 19mm...and be like WTF

ummm...I am the mom and I have numerous facial piercings and many, many tats...and Imma stretching my lobes (my goal is 00g). My daughter (15 yrs) has no desire for having any...LOL. But, she has her lobes 8g... she is happy with that. Good on her Guess ol' momma made it all totally uncool. I guess, be glad you have traditional parents....so they don't ruin all the fun for ya...LOL.
Btw, I had a HELLA bad experience doing my own cartilage piercing, someone told me to use a potato up against the back of my ear as I pushed the needle thru (I was 14)...got a BAAAADDD infection ( impetigo)...holy shit it was freaky...spread to my face. Went to the dr. & got heavy duty antibiotics and luckily healed up ok. Just a cautionary tale.
